Education through Respect and Friendship

Rabbi Gershon Edelstein’s emphatic declaration that children who have left the Haredi path should be treated exclusively with “respect and friendship,” notwithstanding what their siblings might think or what they might ask us to do for them is comparable to Carl Rogers’ realization that “When someone really hears you without passing judgment on you, without trying to take responsibility for you, without trying to mold you, it feels damn good!” Both of these approaches are similar to Family Connections’ stress on acceptance and validation, approaching the BPD sufferer nonjudgmentally with compassion and curiosity.
